Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for questions to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant support from management,” Slot stated.

“It's important to change things and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He added, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”

Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction

Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.

“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club since I was young.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase such as this with performances like these.”

He finished, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”

“We will attempt to get this team back to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
