That Gruesome Cartoon Film Conclusion That Haunts Fans

Out of all the mature animated films I have ever viewed, no other has stuck with me quite like the dread-soaked conclusion of the graphically gory and overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.

In 2015’s, this Spanish writer-director created a grim, somber and frequently brutal world that included some tiny , desolate glimmers of hope.

Although Unicorn Wars seems like it came from a desire to advance the medium further, the filmmaker clarified that it was rather a try to express a universal, cross-cultural message concerning “the shared root of each battle.”

That message is expressed via a group of brightly hued teddy bears , obviously modeled after a famous series of lovable figures.

Maturing in a culture built around aggression as well as the defense industry, many of the bears are obsessed with slaughtering the mythical beasts, thanks to a religious scripture that tells them they used to be masters of the woodland, until the unicorns drove them out.

Some did not entirely fallen for the brainwashing, and prefer to try out substances and fornicate in the woods.

In contrast to their gentle counterparts, these vivid animals show sexual organs , definite urges.

For a particular particularly cruel, cynical bear, the character Bluey, the conflict with the unicorns turns into a road to power — and specifically to authority over his gentler, nicer brother the bear Tubby.

Bluey acts as a tormentor , a seeming psychopath , and as fear dominates his squad and kills his teammates individually, he grabs more and more power personally, in increasingly bloody, destructive ways.

Meanwhile, the horned creatures are enduring their own horror, as a spreading, destructive monster in their woods.

“In the early stages, it seems like a lighthearted film,” the director said. “Yet it becomes a more serious and sorrowful film. And in the finale, it becomes a terrifying movie.”

Unicorn Wars commences feeling a bit like one of the more whimsical films from a legendary animator, that uncover a naughty glee in letting cartoon characters curse, engage in violence, or sex each other up.

Then it becomes something more like a more grim work from the same artist, featuring progressively explicit brutality and a noticeable relation to the real tragedy of battle.

Ultimately, it becomes an outright extreme drama bloodbath.

The horror that turns the film a Halloween-friendly watch begins much sooner than indicated.

Unicorn Wars is suited for the hardcore fans of gore, for fans of graphic films who wish to view a movie they’ve never seen on-screen before, and can endure a story that pulls no restraint.

See it with the lights off with no disturbances, and that ending will dig under your skin and stay with you.
